Black Belt Competition

Well, the big day was finally upon us!

Many months of hard preparation were finally going to be rewarded. But the competition didn’t begin until 3:30pm, so we had a little time on our hands.

So the Dubbeld TKD group decided to go to the beach! We ended up at Coronado Beach, on a beautiful June afternoon.

We’re not sure who had more fun: Athena, or Mr. Dubbeld! There is no doubt everyone enjoyed themselves.

The Dubbelds, Athena, and Mrs. Gemmell all played in the ocean water, while the Sroykums went for a nice walk. Ms. Holyoak enjoyed the beach from a walkway (taking pictures) while Mr. Gemmell walked around the beach.

We only stayed there for a short time before returning to the rooms to prepare for the tournament.

We had some exciting rounds in the patterns competition! The following Utah Black Belts did an outstanding job, placing in competition, too!

Mrs. Heather Gemmell (Dubbeld TKD) was a semifinalist (3rd place) in the Women’s Adult Third Dan Patterns.

Mr. James Sroykum (Dubbeld TKD) was a semifinalist (3rd place) in the Men’s Adult Second Dan Patterns.

Mrs. Corrine Sroykum (Dubbeld TKD) was a finalist (2nd place) in the Women’s Adult First Dan Patterns.

Nicely done everybody! :)

Patterns

Sparring

Utah had a great showing in the Sparring Divisions as well!

Mrs. Heather Gemmell (Dubbeld TKD) was a semifinalist (3rd place) in the Women’s Adult Heavyweight Sparring.

Mr. Phengphong (Paek Jol-San TKD) was a finalist (2nd place) in the Men’s Adult Lightweight Sparring.

Mr. Sean Wadium (Dubbeld TKD) was champion (1st place) in the Men’s Adult Middleweight Sparring.

Mr. Billy Dubbled (Dubbeld TKD) was a semifinalist (3rd place) in Men’s Adult Heavyweight Sparring.

Wow, great job everyone!

Breaking

We had some exciting rounds in the patterns competition! The following Utah Black Belts did an outstanding job, placing in competition, too!

Mr. Eric Gemmell (Dubbeld TKD) was a semifinalist (3rd place) in the Men’s Adult Heavyweight Breaking.

No one from Utah placed in any of the Specialty Breaking divisions.

However, Mr. Cotter (Las Vegas TKD) demonstrated a particularly awesome Overhead Kick and took the champion (1st place) title in Men’s Specialty Breaking. It was very impressive!

Nicely done everybody! :)
